Middle of the night thoughts from Eliana

17 07 2009

I’ve been rearranging some things in our playroom after getting our armoire, and we also got a coffee table off of Craigslist and moved things around in the living room.

Tonight, Eliana just came and woke me up and said she had something to tell me. I was still bleary eyed and asked her what it was.

She leaned over to whisper in my ear, “Do you hear that?” I tried to wake up enough to listen and then realized I could hear thunder, so I told her yes.

She then whispered, “I know what is making that sound. God is moving beds and tables and REAWWY heavy things in heaven. When I die and go to heaven, then I’m going to help Him move things ALL around heaven. I’m a good helper.”

She crawled in bed with me and fell fast asleep. But now I’m wide awake.

As much as I can’t wait for Jesus to take me home, I want as much time on earth as I can with my sweet little girl!

4th of July outfits

9 07 2009

Here are the clothes I made for the kids to wear at the 4th of July Family Reunion last weekend!

I made Eliana a skort and David a pair of shorts out of two different Patriotic fabrics. Then I realized that I didn’t have any white or red shirts for them to wear with them. I dashed to Target and found two white shirts on clearance. So I used the same fabrics to applique stars on the front of the white shirts. I didn’t have a ton of time, so I just did a straight stitch around the inside of each star. I can go back and do a satin stitch if needed, but I thought that this way it might make the edges of the stars fray a bit and give it a fun look.

David’s outfit – There had been a pocket on his shirt, so I took it off. But I made two small holes as a result. So I just added extra stars. And it was a 2T, so there will be lots of room to grow.

Eliana was in the bathroom and I heard her holler for me. When I went in, she was shaking her hand and held it out to me. I thought she hurt it and wanted me to kiss it. So I decided to be silly and kissed all over the front and back of her hand.

Then she said, “Mom… I accidentawy put my hand in the potty and it got allll wet and I dried it on the towel but I need help washing my hand.”

Oh the things we do for our kids, LOL!

Today’s Naptime Forcast? Scattered Showers with a High Chance of Poop

12 06 2009

I put David down for a nap today. I didn’t think anything of it, until hubby went in to get him when he got home from work. I heard a loud, “OH NO! DAVID!! NO NO NO!!” I knew that couldn’t be good and got up from my short snooze to see what happened.

I had forgotten to put shorts over his diaper. David had taken off his diaper and tossed it out of the crib. Poop clumps were all over the floor. It was all over most of the crib bars. Poop was on several of his toys I have snapped onto the rail. And he had poop smeared on his arms, feet and hands. It was even under his fingernails and toenails!

I scooped him up and immediately tossed him into the tub. Hubby got right to work taking off the toys. Here’s a shout-out for Incredible Crib Sheets, because it kept it off the main sheet, although hubby went ahead and took that off too, just to be sure. David cried through his whole bath. I tried to get him to play so he could soak as long as possible to get all the poop off him. I scrubbed him down real well, with an extra scrubbing on his fingers and toes to try to get it out from under the nails.

After his bath, he cried the whole time I dried him off and got him dressed. He finally stopped crying when hubby scooped him up and snuggled him and brought him outside to distract him while DH checked out our roof.

As I was scrubbing down his crib, I realized I missed a great blackmail photo opportunity. That’s ok. He’ll thank me when he’s dating. Although it’ll still be a fun story to tease him about.

At least she’ll be prepared!

A little bit ago, Eliana came and asked me where her suitcase was at. I was really confused, until I realized she meant her rolling backpack suitcase that her great-grandma gave her. She thanked me and then said she had to go pack. Here was the rest of our conversation…

Me – “Oh! So where are you going?”

Eliana – “Africa.”

Me – “Oh really? Wow! What are you going to do there?”

E – “I want to buy a giraffe for me and a elphant for David.”

Me – “Fun! So… what are you going to use for money? You don’t get an allowance yet.”

E – “Oh, it’s ok. David got your wallet from the diaper bag.”

Me – (laughing) “Uh, I don’t think I have enough money for you to buy a giraffe and an elephant.”

E – “Oh, he didn’t take the paper money. You can have that. He took the card. Since Daddy works, I knew that he could work and make more money and it’ll be ok.”

Me – “Uhhhh… Trust me. Daddy doesn’t make enough to buy a giraffe or elephant. But you can try. So how long does it take you to get to Africa? Are you going to fly? Ride a boat? Walk and then swim across the ocean?”

E – “I can’t swim yet and David’s too little to walk that far. We’re going to take his Toemater truck and then get on a plane when we get to the airport.”

Me – “That sounds like a good plan! So when will you be back?”

E – “Ummm…. I don’t know. It’ll take awhile. I better pack some candy for us to eat. And I’ll bring an apple for David. And I’ll bring him a diaper and I want to bring my princess panties and my veggies tales toothbrush.”

Me – “That’s some smart thinking! So where are the giraffe and elephant going to live once yoiu bring them back home? And what will you feed them?”

E – “The giraffe will live in my room and I’ll give him the green candy and he can eat the grass in the backyard. The elphant can sleep in your closet and they like peanuts, so I’ll give him the peanuts in the kitchen and make him a peanut butter sammich. And you can put water in the tub so they can drink water. I don’t want them to drink water out of the toilet like Grammy’s dogs, because that’s beesgusting!”

Me – (laughing some more) “Well, I think you’ve got a good plan! Have fun packing! Come and give me a kiss before you leave!”

E – “Ok! Thanks mommy! I wuv you!”

She went into her room and stuffed the suitcase full of clothes and diapers and then came and asked for candy to pack. I humored her and let her pick out a piece for her. I helped her put it on her back and now she’s been pushing David up and down our halls for the past 15 minutes. The two of them are screeching and laughing and having a blast! I’ll have to grab my camera and take some pictures!

Finger Pickin’ Good!

26 05 2009

I think I’ve mentioned before that Eliana LOVES wearing the dresses my aunt made for me when I was little. We were visiting my parents last week and went to get some cuttings from a neighbor’s jasmine bush. Sadly, the house is a foreclosure and they’ve already moved out. So the lawn hasn’t been mowed in awhile.

Eliana had a BLAST running round and round in the tall grasses and I commented that she would fit perfectly in an episode of Little House on the Prairie. My dad went and got his camera and took these fun pictures.

“It’s my Birthday and I’ll cry if I want to!”

10 05 2009

Well, I told my hubby several times in the last few weeks exactly what I wanted. I wanted to have him get up with the kids, bring David to me so I could feed him and snooze in bed, have him get David and then I sleep in. I wanted him to bring me homemade chai and a rose picked from our rose bush in our front yard. And a bonus would be if he would help Eliana and David make me a card. And I reminded him that I had bought a locket and given to him a month or two ago, and I’d love for him to help the kids wrap it and give it to me after dinner, while eating triple chocolate brownies from a mix and ice cream.

What I got:

I got up twice with David last night (his molars are coming in, poor guy) and I thought I heard David again in the morning, but hubby got up with him. I expected him to bring David to me, but he managed to feed him breakfast and keep him happy for quite awhile! I thought I heard something weird in the hallway at one point but fell back asleep.

I got to sleep in until 11:30am!!!

Eliana threw the rose on my face, which startled me awake. And then she shoved a card in my face, but I was still blurry eyed and needed to put my glasses on before I could read it. It is actually a Birthday card he printed from online, since my birthday is also today!!! It has a hatching chick on it, and he said he thought that would be an appropriate card, since Eliana and I have been learning about how chicks and other birds and animals hatch from eggs and watching tons of youtube videos. So this way, I can look at the card and remember what I was teaching Eliana around this time. Eliana had colored it with almost every marker in the house and proudly showed me where she had “signed” her name, and showed me where David had marked the card and then marked his arm, foot and belly. Hubby handed me homemade chai and brought a little vase with water for me to put the rose in.

He said he bought me a Mother’s Day card but there was some sort of mix up and he needed to go back to the store to fix it and also buy the ice cream. I asked if he could bring both kids and he kind of got a wild eyed look, since he usually only has one kid with him, but never both, but then he agreed.

Eliana said she wanted to show me something in the living room. So I followed her out into the hallway and stopped. Hubby and Eliana had blown up balloons and hung them on streamers all up and down the hallway!! It was such a nice surprise!!!

The kitchen was a partial disaster, as he had Eliana help him mix up the brownie mix and somehow they managed to use up almost every single bowl and measuring cup. They had just put them in the oven and he said he would clean the rest up when he got back from running errands.

Now they are running errands and I hope he enjoys his glimpse of my life of running errands with both kids everyday.

Tonight, we are going to watch a few episodes of The Office and eat pizza and follow it up with brownies and ice cream!

So far, it’s been the best Mother’s Day/Birthday ever!
